What this calculator assumes
- You are an individual resident in India, and the figures are for the whole year.
- House rent allowance is exempt as rule 2A works it out, in the old regime only.
- Home loan interest is for one home you live in, allowed up to ₹2,00,000 as a loss from house property, in the old regime only.
- Section 80D counts health insurance premiums; preventive check-ups and medical bills are left out.
- Capital gains, business income, section 80TTA, 80G and the other sections are not here. The return in ITR Filer works them out.
- Surcharge above ₹50 lakh is included, with marginal relief. Interest under sections 234A, 234B and 234C and the fee under 234F are not.
The new regime applies unless you choose the old one in your return. With business income, the choice is made on Form 10-IEA. Check every figure against your Form 16 before you file. This is not tax advice.
